Cataract surgeries for the elderly
Raised PKR 640,000 Goal PKR 1,000,000

Why this cause exists

Cataract is the single largest cause of blindness in rural Punjab, and it is almost entirely reversible. The barrier is never medical. It is the cost of the lens, the theatre time and the two days away from work that a daily-wage family cannot absorb.

This appeal covers the full cost of treatment for patients identified at our free camps: the assessment, the medicines, the procedure itself at a partner hospital and the follow-up examination a week later.

What your donation pays for

  • PKR 1,200 — a full screening with prescription spectacles
  • PKR 3,500 — pre-operative tests and medicines for one patient
  • PKR 8,000 — one complete cataract operation, start to finish
  • PKR 80,000 — a surgical day list of ten patients

How patients are chosen

Every patient on this list was examined at one of our camps and referred by the attending specialist. We work through the list in order of clinical urgency, giving priority to people who have lost sight in both eyes and to the primary earner of a household.

Reporting back

Once a day is funded we publish the date, the hospital, the number of patients treated and the amount spent.
